TRANSCRIPT:

Happy Monday, and welcome to another episode of Monday Morning Motivation. Today, we’re diving into a quote that feels especially poignant during the holiday season:

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.” —Anne Lamott

Isn’t that beautifully simple?

As we approach the end of the year, life can feel like a whirlwind. With parties, family gatherings, gift shopping, and work deadlines, it’s all too easy to stay plugged in 24/7—scrolling social media or overloading ourselves with tasks.

But here’s the truth: just like our phones and computers, we need a reboot. We need moments to pause, rest, and step away from the noise.

Reflecting on the Need to Unplug

When was the last time you turned off your notifications, stepped away from your screen, and simply breathed?

When we unplug, even briefly, we give ourselves the chance to reconnect—with our families, our dreams, and most importantly, ourselves.

The Benefits of Unplugging

Unplugging isn’t just about stepping away from technology; it’s about stepping back into life. When we take a moment to pause, we:

  1. Regain Clarity – A short break can help us see the big picture and refocus on what truly matters.
  2. Foster Real Connections – Instead of liking a post on Instagram, how about sitting down with someone over a cup of tea? Real, in-person connections fill us in ways that screens never can.
  3. Replenish Energy – A walk, some journaling, or even a few minutes of silence can recharge us mentally and emotionally.

Simple Ways to Unplug This Holiday Season

Here are some practical tips to help you prioritize unplugging in the coming weeks:

  1. Set Boundaries with Technology
Choose specific times to unplug. For example, no screens during dinner or turning off devices after 8 PM. Use your phone’s Do Not Disturb feature—it’s a gift to yourself!
  2. Schedule ‘Unplugged Time’ with Loved Ones
Plan activities that don’t involve screens, like a board game night, baking cookies, or going for a walk. Leave your phone in another room so you can fully enjoy the moment.
  3. Embrace Daily Rituals
Create small rituals to ground yourself, like journaling, practicing gratitude, or sitting in silence with a cup of tea. These moments can help you reset each day.
  4. Reconnect with Nature
Step outside. Even a 10-minute walk in fresh air can calm your mind and refresh your spirit.
  5. Give Yourself Permission to Rest
Rest is productive. Saying ‘no’ to one more commitment or taking a day off can do wonders for your well-being.

A Weekly Challenge

Here’s my challenge for you this week: find one moment each day to unplug. It could be as simple as putting your phone away and taking a mindful breath, or spending five minutes journaling about what you’re grateful for.

These small actions can make a big difference.

Final Thoughts

As Anne Lamott wisely reminds us:
"Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you."

The holiday season is a perfect opportunity to slow down and prioritize what truly matters—time with loved ones, moments of reflection, and, most importantly, time for yourself.

Thank you for joining me today. If you found this episode helpful, I’d love for you to share it with a friend or leave a review. Let’s make this holiday season mindful, meaningful, and magical.

As always, I’ll be back on Friday. Until then, stay inspired, stay intentional, and don’t forget to unplug.
